Zheng Shaopeng, a high school student, dozed off during a history lesson. When he awoke, he discovered that he had changed into the impoverished scholar Yang Lin and had traveled to the Danzhu Dynasty in the history textbook. Initially, Yang Lin struggled to adjust to life in the past, but when he applied contemporary ideas to create a few modest innovations, he won the villagers' affection and eventually discovered a feeling of identity of his own. Yang Lin lived through a time of both internal and exterior unrest, experiencing battles and seeing the agony of the populace. By relying on his knowledge and abilities to acquire access to the court, he eventually oversaw the Danzhu Dynasty's efforts to combat internal corruption and repel formidable adversaries.

It was Meiji 38 (1905), the Russo-Japanese War that had begun since the previous year was getting hard. In this severe circumstance, they reorganized the Raimu Squad. The members of the Raimu Squad were the girls. They were just like other ordinary girls who went to schools and yearned for love, except that they had "Raimu." Inukai Tsuyoshiro was a young man who was newly chosen to be the leader of the squad. He was ambitious to fight for Japan. When the young man met the five girls, the new chapter of "Raimu" began.

In the Kingdom of Yamauchi, people have the ability to transform into three-legged crows known as yatagarasu. While the men plot over daily governance, women compete for the hand of Wakamiya, the crown prince who was selected as the Kinu, the servant to the Mountain God. Four young women arrive at the court to join the competition, including one named Asebi. While the kind and innocent Asebi sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the other women, the crown prince has to fight for his place in the clan. Despite being born both to a concubine and as a second son, the royal priests still chose Wakamiya to be the Kinu over his older brother. This decision created a rift between the siblings while enraging Wakamiya's stepmother in the process. When Yukiya, one of the teenage sons of the village chief, is sent to the palace to become Wakamiya's new attendant, the prince is not pleased in the slightest. However, Yukiya's presence at the imperial courts is no mere coincidence.
