Well I wouldn't be surprised if they do that, I am not that positive of a Hollywood productions or from any other similar companies with the same mindset/production ideas, as they often fail and some of them are just "Romantic" telenovela of saying who's cheated on whom, makind drama on that, spitting and casting away the main background, worldbuilding, world setting etc. I don't care about such productions.

Which is why I watch mainly anime and Korean dramas.

And It actually did in 2020. When the Mugen Train movie was the highest grossing film of that year overtaking any Hollywood or Chinese film.
And The movie earned $395.8 million globally against a very small $19.5 million budget.
Your Name - With a very small budget of only $5 million, the film has grossed about $382.2 million worldwide. etc

So technically Anime Series and Movies have sometimes earned a lot more than Hollywood or other productions with a lower budget & Story is better too.
